External ventricular drains and lumbar drains will generally be managed primarily by the neurosurgical team. Nonetheless, some general understanding of their management, data interpretation, and potential complications is extremely helpful.

much like ETCO2, when looking at a pressure on a draining EVD, the actual pressure will be at least that high. So if you see a high pressure, measure a real one and treat it–i.e. the pressure measurement is inaccurate, but only in one direction
