APPLY NOW: 2018 Essentials of Emergency Medicine Education Fellowship Program and Essentials of EMCrit BLAST Competition
The Essentials of Emergency Medicine (EEM) conference is in May 2018, but opportunities for residents start NOW. EEM is one of the largest live EM educational conferences in the world with over 2,000 attendees. The conference organizers, led by Dr. Paul Jhun, are again offering an amazing opportunity for EM residents anywhere in the world to serve as an EEM Fellow for the next EEM conference May 15-17, 2018, held in Las Vegas.
EEM Education Fellowship
EEM is offering 1 fellowship position to eligible EM residents anywhere in the world through EMCrit. This is a 2-round competition. The first round involves submitting a 1-minute video pitching your lecture idea. Three finalists will be selected for the second round. If you’re selected as a finalist, you will deliver an 8-minute lecture LIVE in the newly re-imagined Essentials of EMCrit conference’s BLAST competition on January 31, 2018 in New York! The winner of that live-speaking competition will win the EEM fellowship spot.
ROUND #1: The three finalists will receive:
- FREE Essentials of EMCrit conference registration for January 31, 2018 in New York
- A travel stipend of US $100
- An invited lecture slot in the BLAST speaking competition at Essentials of EMCrit (for your CV)
ROUND #2: Three finalists will speak LIVE at the Essentials of EMCrit conference BLAST competition. The winner of the BLAST competition will receive:
- FREE Essentials of Emergency Medicine conference registration for May 15-17, 2018 in Las Vegas
- FREE 4-night hotel stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel
- A travel stipend of US $500
As part of the EEM staff, fellows will get a rare opportunity to experience the behind-the-scenes work associated with developing and producing one of the world’s largest and best EM educational conferences. Fellow responsibilities will include online chat moderation, social media management, CME preparation, research projects, and more. A common theme voiced by previous EEM fellows has been the opportunity to interact directly and develop meaningful relationships with the renowned, fun, and master clinician-educators in the EEM faculty.

Application Process
We at EMCrit are launching this contest for interested applicants in conjunction with Dr. Michelle Lin at ALiEM. What’s the primary difference between the two contests? EMCrit’s contest involves creating a video and live speaking while ALiEM’s contest involves writing a blog post or creating an educational visual design piece.
Complete the application form below and submit a 1-minute video on anything clinically or educationally relevant to EM providers, discussing what you want to talk about at the BLAST competition in New York on January 31, 2018.
What is BLAST? A presentation format to encourage rapid-fire knowledge transfer. For the BLAST competition, you will have 8 minutes to speak and need 24 or more slides, with 8 words or less per slide.
For ROUND #1: Pick a topic and tell us in 60 seconds or less about who you are and what you want to speak about! Be creative, showcase your educational prowess, and teach us something about a topic you are passionate about! This is a 2-round competition. Three submissions will be chosen, and you will need to be able to attend the Essentials of EMCrit event in New York on January 31, 2018 to speak on your topic for 8 minutes during the BLAST competition. You will receive a US $100 travel stipend to attend Essentials of EMCrit and FREE conference registration. One winner of the BLAST competition in New York will go to the main EEM show in Las Vegas, May 15-17, 2018!
All applicants must be in good standing at an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine program in the United States, or in good academic standing at any Emergency Medicine residency program in the world, and be available to attend both the Essentials of EMCrit Conference in New York on January 31, 2018, and all 3 conference days of Essentials of EM in Las Vegas from May 15-17, 2018. Judging Criteria
Your video (< 60 seconds) submission will be judged on:
- Relevance (How relevant is this submission to EM education and/or clinical practice?)
- Innovation (How creative and innovative is this submission?)
- Design (How well is the information presented?)
- Content (How well did this candidate present the material with respect to clarity, conciseness, accuracy, references?)
