Hey Folks
For episode 200 of EMCrit, my friend Rob Orman of ERCast interviews me on some non-clinical topics–you've been warned.
What we covered:
How much of a pain in the ass was Weingart as a resident
How Weingart feels when he receives feedback that a resident challenged their attending by saying they heard it on EMCrit
Origins of EMCrit
What mistakes were made in the history of EMCrit
What is the process for making a podcast
White coat–yes/no and what shoe-ware is recommended for ED docs
Role Models
Recommended books for residents

Love it. Great interview rob!
Thank you Rob and Scott. That was very helpful. I’m a new FNP and I plan to treat my first three years of ED work like a residency as much as possible as my training was sorrowfully weak on pathophysiology and emergency conditions. I was looking for a starting point and now I will definitely use Rosen first. What advice do you have for new advanced providers? I have 5 years of critical care/ED nursing experience which has shown me I have a ways to go to be the provider I want to be. Thank you. I have greatly enjoyed… Read more »
Just a comment on attire. As a (35 yr old, white) woman resuscitationist, I’ve struggled with the wardrobe issue a lot. I also abhor a white coat, however when I wear scrubs, I magically turn into a nurse. Interestingly, this inherent bias is least evident in male doctors; a good male colleague was shocked that in 2017 it would still be an issue. This comment was sent to me privately and I encouraged the author to put it up on the site. So sad that pt bias determines wardrobe, but seeing this bias play out with my resident and attending colleagues, I know it is a real issue. If you start the conversation with I am Dr. X, I’ll be your doctor, I am one of the emergency doctors here at hospital X; does this still occur?
Hey, sorry I”m a bit late; could you list the books you suggest for required reading? I know at least one is in your recommended reading page, but I just want to make sure I didn’t miss one!
I believe all of them were on the rec reading list
I loved the interview! It was so refreshing and made me smile on my way back from an evening shift. Not a clinical question, but would you be willing to share the titles of some of your favorite novels? The characters you seem to gravitate around sound interesting :). Thanks for raising the standard in EM!!
