If you have plyte and want to use it, it is probably ok. I would not use LR in brain injury pts, but this study doesn’t apply to that point obv.
so… it seems it generally doesn’t matter.. but as Josh says perhaps it does with larger volumes. also, LR seems to be the better choice in DKA; I believe that is established (no?)
Great discussion on a never ending topic that concerns the critical care care community across the board. My personal thoughts on this massive and labor-intensive trial is that it stresses the importance of getting to the patient on their initial phase of deterioration before the “horse is out of the barn”. If we are confronted with a patient after a considerable amount of damage has occurred, be it because they got to us too late in the game, or the acuity of the problem is so intense, they become a non-linear exponential system which cannot be compared with anyone else… Read more »
