Scan the entire abdomen with 3.5 to 5 mhz probe. Localize iliac vessels in RLQ

Scan the RLQ with 7.5-9 mhz probe

Must answer 3 questions

• Is the appendix wall >3 mm
• Is the diameter of the appendix > 6mm
• Is the appendix compressible

Normally has 5 layers: serosa, muscularis propria, submucosa, muscularis mucosa, mucosa of lumen
